Why I’m Building JebJub
The internet is full of amazing tools, and trackers that watch your every move. For the past few years, I’ve wanted to build something small that helps website owners understand their visitors without spying on them.
That’s where JebJub comes in.
What is JebJub
JebJub is a privacy-first web analytics tool. Think of it like Google Analytics (GA), but less bloated and a lot more respectful of your visitors.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Google. I think 80% of the websites I’ve worked on for the last 7 years used GA. It’s unavoidable. It’s free (my clients love free stuff) and it works well enough.
But you know what they say: If you’re not paying for the product, you are the product. Or something like that.
The Problem
Since GA started, so many new analytics tools have popped up: Plausible, Fathom, Umami, PostHog, and more. I’ve tried many of them. These tools are great and the people behind them are doing awesome work.
So you might ask, Why make JebJub then?
Why Another Web Analytics Tool
After using these tools for the past couple of years, I started to see a pattern. They grow from small indie projects into bigger companies, and start to get bloated again. They add so many functions I don’t need.
And they’re all paywalled. You get a 14-day free trial, then you have to pay. If you have the money, you should pay. Good tools deserve support.
But if you’re like me, you just want something simple, basic, and free, then this is for you.
The Plan
I’m keeping JebJub:
- Privacy-focused
- Simple
- Free
It’s for people who want basic, honest info about their website without forcing their visitors to give up their privacy.
What’s Next
I’m building this out in the open and I’d love for you to follow along. If you run a small site, blog, or project, and want simple, cookieless stats, give JebJub a try.
Thanks for reading and here’s to a more respectful web.
